Le Cercle de l'Harmonie

Cercle de l'Harmonie

The Cercle de l'Harmonie explores a deep connection with a natural repertoire spanning over a century of music, having Berlioz as its cornerstone and ranging from Gluck to Spontini to Wagner in the field of opera, and from Haydn to Brahms in the symphony.

The Cercle plays on period instruments because therein lies all the subtlety of the original composers’ genius, and it is with this sound that Jérémie Rhorer wishes to convey their ideas, visions and talent. All music written in the early 19th century was designed for an extremely different type of orchestra than we are accustomed to seeing today, in its very nature, nimbleness, transparency and balance.

Invited as a guest of the most prestigious institutions in France and abroad since it was founded in 2005, the Cercle de l’Harmonie performs at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Opéra Garnier and Opéra-Comique, at international festivals (Lyrical Arts Festival in Aix-en-Provence, International Baroque Opera Festival in Beaune, BBC Proms) and all across Europe at La Fenice (Venice), Bozar (Brussels), Barbican Centre (London), Musikfest Bremen, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Cologne Philharmonie and Dortmund Konzerthaus.
